Dr Frederick Stocken’s current teaching is for the Royal College of Organists, the Royal Academy of Music, and Junior Academy.
Frederick taught a keyboard musicianship course for undergraduates at the University of Manchester whilst he was researching his PhD at the university. He has also taught at Oxford University.
Frederick devised Scale Shapes, which is published by Chester Music, and is now in its third revised edition; see under ‘Other Publications.’ It is a diagrammatic aid to scale learning used by many teachers and students.
2017 saw the release of Graded Keyboard Musicianship, co-written with Anne Marsden Thomas.
Frederick’s teaching led him to become an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), and he examines both grade exams and diplomas. Frederick has given many talks to teachers on behalf of the ABRSM. He also examines for the Royal College or Organists.
